A couple of weeks ago, we sent out a priorities survey to you and fellow MoveOn members to understand your top issues as we head into the government shutdown fight this month. Our goals were two-fold: to clearly outline and elevate the priorities of our base and to show Democrats evidence that we will back them if they hold the line and make this a real fight for the American people.
We sent your answers to Democratic leadership in Congress, and this was the result:
As the end of Trump's first year approaches, we're more clear than ever about our red lines and yours because of the response from this survey:
Nearly 92% of MoveOn respondents said Senate Democrats should not vote for a funding bill unless it reverses the massive health care cuts from the Big Ugly Bill.
Almost 80% of MoveOn members like you said you're more likely to support lawmakers based on their willingness to push back against Trump's authoritarian overreach than on their specific policy positions.
The top three priorities from the survey were clear:
Repealing Medicaid and health care cuts and defending provisions in the Affordable Care Act
Stopping Trump's authoritarian takeover of cities like LA and D.C.
Supporting immigrant communities against ICE
We're using this fight as more than just another debate on the Hill. We're telling the bigger story of our movement right now: We're fighting back against Trump's authoritarianism by demanding Democrats meet the moment by obstructing Republican attempts at "business as usual" policymaking, especially while we're forced to fight for the dignity of our communities daily.
Now is the moment to pile the pressure on our senators. Call your senator at 833-858-9042 and tell them:
"This is NOT business as usual. You need to reject any funding deal that doesn't reverse cuts to our health care, doesn't stop authoritarian overreach, and doesn't keep ICE out of our communities."
The fight over funding our government isn't just about line items in a bill; it's about whether lawmakers will finally stand up and obstruct Trump's destructive agenda—for however long as it takes. Together, we can show Congress that we are united, organized, and ready to fight back.
