Dear MoveOn member,
MoveOn members just made a huge decision: endorsing Zohran Mamdani and Brad Lander in the Democratic primary for mayor of New York City!
With a combined 73% of the vote in our ranked choice survey, MoveOn members in New York City ranked Mamdani their top choice and Lander their second choice in the ranked choice race.
Mamdani, a young progressive, is building a huge, powerful, and energized grassroots campaign focused on lowering costs for everyday people—and rejecting policies that favor the corporate elite and the ultra wealthy.
Lander, a progressive powerhouse, is also fighting for a bold agenda—affordable housing, safer streets, and a better-run New York City. Just yesterday, he was handcuffed and taken into custody by federal agents for accompanying immigrants in court.1
Meanwhile, their chief opponent is Andrew Cuomo, an insider career politician and New York's disgraced former governor who was forced to resign after 13 women accused him of sexual harassment.2 Later, in an attempt to defame and discredit those women, Cuomo sued his accusers for their gynecological records.3
Cuomo is also backed by right-wing billionaire donors, including Bill Ackman, a prominent Trump supporter who donated $250,000 to a pro-Cuomo SuperPAC.4
Disgusting.
We need your help to stop Cuomo and his billionaire backers. Please, will you donate $9 right now, in these critical final few days, to elect a progressive as the next mayor of New York City? MoveOn has partnered with New Yorkers for Lower Costs—a local PAC making critical investments in these last few days before voting ends.
Instead of relying on billionaire Big Money, Mamdani and Lander are building true progressive grassroots campaigns. Mamdani's campaign alone is knocking nearly 100,000 doors per week to have face-to-face conversations with New York voters about their plans to lower the cost of housing, make child care free, and ensure that the super rich are paying their fair share in taxes.5,6
New Yorkers are rallying around the progressive duo, and the two candidates have recently co-endorsed each other. It's clear that a strategic approach is needed to defeat Trump-aligned donors who are rallying for Cuomo and in a city that has been long run by corporate interests and Big Money.
That's why Mamdani is soaring in the polls and has now taken a narrow lead for the first time ever in this election.7
But the final day to vote in the primary is next Tuesday, June 24, and in these critical final few days, Mamdani and Lander need our help. While both campaigns have maxed out on the total amount of direct campaign donations they can receive under NYC's rules, MoveOn has partnered with New Yorkers for Lower Costs—a local PAC making critical investments in these last few days before voting ends.
Will you donate $9 right now, in these critical final few days, to elect a progressive as the next mayor of New York City?
This is one of the biggest, most high-profile races since Trump took office, and we need to show that the Democratic Party must embrace our progressive values instead of electing establishment politicians like Cuomo.
Mamdani and Lander are presenting a big, bold vision—not just for New York but for the future of the Democratic Party and the progressive movement.
That's why Mamdani has been endorsed by progressive champions like Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Just look at what Sen. Sanders is saying: "At this dangerous moment in history, status quo politics isn't good enough. We need new leadership that is prepared to stand up to powerful corporate interests & fight for the working class."8
Will you join the powerful coalition of progressives—including Bernie Sanders, AOC, MoveOn, and so many others— by making a $9 donation today? 100% of your donation will go to the NYC race. (If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately.)
Thanks for all you do.
