| Pamela, There are lots of theories and hot takes floating around as to what went wrong in this election. But here's something to chew on: In several states that Donald Trump won, voters passed ballot initiatives to raise the minimum wage and implement paid sick leave. Voters were signaling they felt economic pain and were unhappy with the system rigged against them but too many Democrats weren't able to articulate clearly enough on how we would actually improve people's lives. That's why I'm pushing for policies like Medicare for All, paid family and medical leave, raising the minimum wage, increasing union membership, and more. Because those kinds of policies will make a real, meaningful difference in people's lives. So if you're with us, will you add your name to our petition calling on Democrats to focus on bold, progressive policies that working class voters care about? People rightfully believe the system is broken — and due to billions in Super PAC spending, they saw Trump as someone who was willing to buck the system. It's time for Democrats to earn their votes by challenging the system that works only for the wealthiest and fighting for real progressive change. In solidarity, Team Jayapal |
