| We are entering a very difficult period. Next year, a reactionary president will be sworn into office with little in the way of an opposition party. The coming years will be brutal for many: for the wide range of groups targeted by Donald Trump as objects of scorn and hate, for the working class as a whole, and for the planet. Amid the uncertainty leading up to the election and after its sobering results, hundreds of thousands turned to Jacobin for incisive analysis. We delivered. For months, we have been reporting on where we thought the Kamala Harris campaign was going wrong in both its messaging and strategy. Jacobin's clear-eyed publishing meant our readers weren't shocked when Trump took the White House back again. As the Left charts its path forward, Jacobin's analysis is more important than ever. We published a unique study on eligible voters in Pennsylvania that decisively concluded the Harris campaign's messaging and campaign priorities were not just flawed; they were the worst-performing options we tested. Our study concluded that strong economic populist messaging that went beyond Harris's rhetoric of Trump's "threat to democracy" outperformed all other messaging among Pennsylvania voters, and performed particularly well among the working-class and independent voters needed to win the state. Our article "If Harris Loses, This Is Why" further emphasized that winning over key voters required placing the blame for the current crisis where it belongs: on the economic elites working against the interests of the vast majority. Again, we showed how the Harris campaign failed to offer an anti-elite counter to Donald Trump's right-wing populism. Since Trump's victory, we haven't slowed down. Within hours of the election results, we broke down in minute detail the Democratic Party's loss of its working-class base, pushed back against the idea that Kamala Harris failed because she moved too far left, broached the vital topic of what will be next for labor, and reminded our readers why bread-and-butter issues like the cost-of-living crisis were the main drivers of Trump's victory. There is a simple reason Jacobin is the most vital left publication in the English language. Our readership has grown not because we follow the daily news cycle or the scandal of the day but because we provide a clear, strategic perspective anchored in our democratic socialist principles, our class-based analysis, and our moral vision of a more peaceful and equal world beyond capitalism. In a media ecosystem that generates news and opinions distorted by corporate interests, our goal is to prove that a vision of a better society should not be a far-off fantasy but a real possibility. Jacobin is the place to be if you want a sophisticated take on contemporary politics delivered in plain language. The fight for a better world begins here.
