When emergencies strike, Leadership Circle members ensure we can respond quickly and effectively to meet children’s needs and remain in communities for as long as they need our support. We are endlessly grateful for your partnership – it truly makes an impact for children like Eda* and Ayse.*
10-year-old Eda and 6-year-old Ayse survived February’s devastating earthquakes in Türkiye, but they lost people close to them, their home and all their belongings. Their mother Melis* shared their family’s story with us:
Immediately after the quake, they stayed on the streets facing the brutal cold for days. Now, they are staying with an uncle, along with dozens of other relatives.
Before the earthquakes, Eda and Ayse enjoyed going to school while their parents worked. The disaster made them afraid to be away from their mother even for a short time.
Additional earthquakes and aftershocks continued to traumatize them even more. But attending Save the Children’s child-friendly space at a local community center is helping them overcome their fear.
Child-friendly spaces give children in crisis much-needed structure and stability, and space where they can draw, play, feel safe and begin to heal. Our trained counselors provide trauma-informed psychosocial support.
The valued members of our Leadership Circle help ensure children like Eda and Ayse can survive and recover when disaster strikes. Their support also helps build schools and health care centers in rural communities, provide nutritious food and clean water to children suffering from hunger and so much more.
