Reporting back from our meeting with Senator Manchin's office

An equitable, sustainable economic future for our country is on the line, and every voice matters in this moment.

Dear MoveOn member,

Last week, our group of MoveOn Build Back Bold mobilizers from across West Virginia met virtually with Senator Manchin's team to advocate for a bold economic recovery package that delivers for working people and combats climate change, invests in the care economy, provides a pathway to citizenship for essential workers, and restores fairness to our tax system.

While Senator Manchin and others in the Senate may have worked on a bipartisan infrastructure bill to repair roads and bridges, clean our drinking water, expand railways, and enhance rural broadband access, it's clear that the deal struck with the GOP doesn't go nearly far enough to meet the long-ignored crises of our time.¹

Eighty-one million people voted in 2020 to usher Democrats into power to aggressively tackle the climate crisis, invest in working people and get America back to work, and ensure that the rich invest in America too and finally pay their fair share. We know our work doesn't stop at the ballot box. If we want to see the change we voted for, we must continue to organize and push our elected officials to do the right thing.

That's why MoveOn members across the country are mobilizing to urge our representatives to pass a Bold Recovery Now. Will you join them and sign this petition calling on your elected officials to pass the American Jobs Plan and American Families Plan?

President Biden's American Jobs Plan and American Families Plan would put us on a path to a bold recovery. Here are just some of the policies that this legislation would put in place:

• Pathways to citizenship for essential workers.

• Universal pre-k and community college.

• Expanded prescription medication access.

• Affordable childcare.

• Permanent expansion of the Child Tax Credit.

• And much more!²

But given the slim Democratic majorities in Congress, it's going to take a lot of work to get past Republican obstruction and make these policies a reality.

MoveOn members are lifting our voices to share our stories, like Miss Debbie in Charles Town, who hasn't been able to find in-home care for her disabled son in over two years. Or like Miss Erica, who loves her job as a home child care provider but can't depend on that income to support her family.

Stories like these can make a difference, and senators like Joe Manchin, Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen need to hear them every day until this critical legislation is passed. The Build Back Bold Mobilizers team is developing tactics to influence the most strategic senators involved in the negotiations. We need your support to ensure all elected officials across the country are hearing from constituents demanding a recovery that works for all of us.
