DeSantis is no exception. After the Florida Senate rushed a bill banning transgender youth from participating in school sports consistent with their gender identity through the Florida Legislature, DeSantis signed it into law. Gov. DeSantis is one of seven governors — including Gov. Greg Gianforte in Montana, Gov. Kay Ivey in Alabama, Gov. Jim Justice in West Virginia, Gov. Tate Reeves in Mississippi, Gov. Bill Lee in Tennessee, and Gov. Asa Hutchinson in Arkansas — who have signed anti-transgender legislation this session. There are more than 250 anti-LGBTQ bills under consideration in state legislatures nationwide. Of those, more than 120 directly target transgender people and at least 66, including the bill DeSantis has signed into law, ban transgender girls from participating in sports consistent with their gender identity. We cannot let the governor's blatant disregard for equality go unchecked. HRC – the nation's largest LGBTQ advocacy organization – champions equality at every turn and defends it in the face of relentless attacks like the one DeSantis is waging.
