Hey Pamela — We can't have a government that works for working people if we don't put an end to the GOP's voter suppression tactics and ensure our democracy works for working people. So I'm disgusted to hear Senator Joe Manchin's weak excuse for why he's voting against the For the People Act. Our democracy can't afford another Democrat like Joe Manchin who will play right into the Republicans' hands. Here in Pennsylvania, the GOP has tried to end mail-in voting, force strict voter ID, and conduct an unnecessary audit of the 2020 election. I'm fighting back hard against the GOP's voter suppression tactics as a Pennsylvania State Representative, but the truth is, we need help from Washington to put an end to their assault on voting rights for good. Otherwise, tens of thousands of people who made their voices heard in 2020 may not be able to make their voices heard in the next election. So I believe Pennsylvania's next Senator must be someone who will act boldly to save our sacred democracy, no excuses. And it's clear to me that we need more working people in the Senate if we're going to make progress on health care, climate change, and gun safety that will keep families like ours safe and healthy. I've spent my time in Harrisburg fighting for the third-poorest district in Pennsylvania — the North Philly community I grew up in — and now I'm ready to take this fight to Washington. But I'll need a lot of support from folks in Pennsylvania and across the country to get there.
